Radaitor hoses

For a late 1928 or early 1929 what hoses were more correct all red or black with red stripe

Re: Radaitor hoses

For a fine point car show what would be more how it came from the factory I also have a red fan belt never used that I could put on when if that would be more of how it left the factory that is what I am going for I read the judging standard i don't feel comfortable with either or

Re: Radaitor hoses

Good question. Seems every factory picture I've seen has showed the stripe on the hoses. The old red Ford script belts I've seen are actually closer to brown, just as the 1928 steering wheel is.

Thanks ,Tom I value your opinion

Re: Radaitor hoses

ONLY the Black with Red Stripe for fine point cars should be used

What would have been the purpose of the red strip?

Re: Radaitor hoses

Page 3-4 of the guidelines state;

Radiator hoses were either predominantly black
with a red longitudinal stripe which was generally
installed with the red stripe facing upward or all
red (a small percentage of production).

Re: Radaitor hoses

Speaking of hoses, I find that the original style clamps tend to corrode quite quickly. Does anyone know of a source for clamps that will last without crudding up ?

I replated my original clamps by using the Caswell Home Plating kit with "Copy-Cad", which is actually zinc, and the clamps have stayed nice for many years. I like to take an oily rag and wipe over my plated parts once a year.

These are not for everyone, but most of the guys in our club have gone to this clamp. No rust, no leaks, etc, etc.

My Model As are all drivers, but I do show them once in a while, and I like them to look authentic. I spray the fan belts with rustoleum red primer in the spray can. I know it's not real, but it looks good to me.

I was thinking of trying some vinyl spray paint, such as I used to turn my black arm rest to the correct color on the left. It's flexible and sprayed on great.:)
