Need Advice Painting Curtain Pan 31 Roadster

I searched the archives but couldn't find a previous thread on how to adequately preserve the recessed area of the curtain storage compartment. Due to limited access and clearance, spray painting is out of the question. Am thinking brush/roller as the only option but would like to hear how others have tackled this project.

Would love to know how they painted this area on the assembly line - Thinking it must have been dipped before assembly.

A friend used a foam brush. Wayne

I would tape thin plastic over the surrounding area and spray paint it.

I think, because limited acces and clearance, spray painting is the best solution.

I would think with limited access and clearance it would mean no spray paint. Wayne

Thank you for the replies and I agree with spraying the open area directly beneath the seat bottom but the recessed area (pix 2 & 3) is only 2 inches high. Not sure how to get a paint gun or even a spray can in such a confined space.

How about one of those undercoating crevice attachments??

May not be pretty......

Why are you insistant on spraying when in your opening statement you said it was out of the question??? Wayne

A spray can will be difficult but a spray gun can be set for mostly any paint job.

I've never thought of this till now but I wonder if a straw like in the WD40 fans will fit into a spray can nozzle? If it works maybe that would help in that 2 in area you're speaking of. I'm curious now if it will work so if I find a straw like that I'm gonna try it.

Many touch up guns or an air brush have a cup with a spout so you can spray in almost any direction by rotating the cup.

I've got a gun like Tom mentioned with the side cup and you can rotate the cup
so the gun is upside-down.

I looked at previously mentioned touch up guns but still don't feel confident there is enough room to maneuver in such close quarters.

Thanks to everyone who responded.

I wonder if you could use one of those sponge brushes to do the tight underside of the lip, then spray the pan so it all flows together?

Thanks Tom, I'm sorta leaning in that direction. You can't see the recessed area without standing on your head or using a mirror so my major concern is strictly preservation.
