1956 Ford Wagon and Others VIN Question
 

I placed my VIN number into an old Ford vin registry to find out particulars of my Parklane model. Made in Dallas, had a 4 barrel on it, but listed as Customline. Why doesn't the vin distinguish a Parklane? Got to thinking about it, was the extra trim put on during the resto? And then henceforth a Parklane? Finding other vins from Parklanes on-line, they all are identified as Customline.

Any VIN experts out there?

VIN's don't have any body style info. Just model year, assembly plant and build number. The Data Plate with the VIN also has a body style number. '56 Parklane 2 dr. wagon is 59C. Customlines in '56 were 64D (2 dr. Victoria hardtop), 70B (2 dr. sedan) and 73B ( 4 dr. sedan).

You're so right Scicala! I've been through a bit recently and I'm still trying to think clearly. I thought of this some time after the post.

I am not positive and need a second opinion about my new to me Ford Wagon.

Here is what I'm concerned about: Did I buy a vehicle that is NOT a Parklane?
Was the vehicle misrepresented?

Here is the info from the decoder link above. You probably already did this.

The body code on you're plate (60C) is a non-existent number. No such thing. Same with the body color code, so not sure what's up with the data plate.

Like I said, I'm not sure about the bogus body code on the data plate. If I had to guess, I would say you may have a 2 door Ranch Wagon with Fairlane (Parklane) trim.
Since the de-coder said it's a Ranch Wagon (Customline level). Pictures of the car and all of the trim might help.

Here is where the confusion comes in, looking at the link below and placing all info from the VIN plate, part of the answer is: Fairlane Ranch Wagon, 59C instead of Parklane.

It lists the car as a Parklane.

But you're right, I have yet to decipher the paint code of CDS.

I believe the car is a Parklane that did come with a plastic two tone blue interior, with a 292 4 barrel.....put together in Dalls Oct 55

How clean and legible is the data plate?
Yes folks making their own data plates happens, and typos on the plate when stamped at the factory are more common than you'd think.
Or, might debris on or damage to the data plate be obscuring some of the letters & numbers?

Would it be possible for you to post a sharp full frame closeup photo of the plate here?

Yes, 59C is the correct code for the Parklane 2 door wagon. You said the data plate said 60C ? If it's 59C, the mystery is over as far as the body style.

The first link below is what looks to be a scan of an old multiple page printed document. Found it as part of the Crown Vic. Assn. website.
I've also seen the same color code "S" info on CTCI '55/'57 Thunderbird documents.

Color code S is used for a 'special' non-standard color. It could be any color available on the assembly line for that model year, but one not normally an option for that model. Also, possibly using standard colors applied in a different way: reverse upper/lower body color, optional roof color, etc.
The more detailed build sheet documentation for the car would have specified what the special color was and where on the car it was to be applied.

Date code, 3K = third of October, built late in the model year, it might have been subject to 'creative' uses of leftover model year parts. (exterior trim?)
IIRC, a letter at the end of the production code number (552"B") is usually to note a variation of some sort from normal production.
And/or, it could have been a 'special ordered' car.
