?? on 32 rdstr windshield stanchions & frame

Been putting together my original 32 roadster after completing paint. I was fitting the windshield today and have a couple questions.

The lower stanchions have a 3/8 fine thread stud to mount the upper stanchions. The threads on one of mine are badly worn (but not cross threaded or anything like that). Can this stud be removed to be replaced? These are original lower stanchions.

Second question regarding the windshield frame. This is an original with minor rust through in the lower corners. Is there a good chrome shop that will braze/brass the pinhole rust and then do a decent job plating? This car is mostly all original '32 parts and I'd like to keep it that way.

Thanks!

On my original stands that stud looks like its welded on doubt its removable. If I needed to replace mine I would use the milling machine.
First step I would center drill the old stud. Next using that center line I would then mill the stud flush to the stand. Next I would drill a tap size hole into the stand but not go all the threw. Last step I would then tap this hole for 3/8 fine and install a new stud.

On your windshield frame.I would use silver solder for the repair.Silver solder will plate.Braze is not good IMO.If there is rust you might want to have the frame dipped, then neutralize then somehow seal (I used older enamel paint carefully pouring it through)it inside or it will rust again.

Lower original stanchions I have ever owned have had two female threaded holes in each. That said if yours has a stud, it should be removable.

I believe that he is asking about the upper stud where the windshield post attaches, not where the stanchion attaches to the cowl.

David G is correct. I'm talking about the stud where the upper windshield posts attach.

Never thought about silver solder for the windshield frame repair. I'll ask a local plater about that. This afternoon I saw a '36 roadster windshield frame that had been replated that was in far worse shape than mine. It appeared someone had used some sort of epoxy to fill?? Still looking for recommendations on someone that can chrome plate and do good repair. Seem to be getting few and far between.

Paul's chrome has good recommendations. I've seen some pictures of their work and it is good.

When I built my roadster I finally found a pair of original lower stanchions and they had the 3/8 threads slightly roughed up. I took a 3/8 fine die and chased the threads and they worked fine.

I've had excellent success with these:
