I agree. People need to restore the old bldgs. and put them to good use like this guy has done. Too many are tearing down good brick buildings and putting up junky metal sheds that look like hell. And calling that a 'new business'.

Jeff,

You can say that again...the city of Walla Walla, WA tore down a lot of their old buildings because they wanted that "new" city look...now the city is kicking its own ass for doing so so many years ago...what a shame it was to see some of those old brick buildings go when there was absolutly nothing wrong with them in the first place.

Yep, the Twin Cities did the same thing. Beautiful old buildings in perfect condition gone forever.

I've been to his museum, it is the most awesome collection of this type I've ever seen. One of my favorite museum visits, and I love museums (you guys would like the Dr Pepper museum in Waco, too). He's done a great job building the garage, the general store, the soda shop, diner, etc. - it's like walking through time. If any of you happen to take the trip along I35 through Hillsboro, you should give him a call to take a tour. He is a very down-to-earth, personable guy and is happy to give a personal tour. Hillsboro is a town that has refused to grow much or 'sell out' to businesses who only care about making money. They've certainly preserved the small town feel there.

I completely agree with saving old brick structures and since I couldn't find an old building to buy or rent I just built my own. It doesn't have character like an original but I'm slowly working on that.

It always amazes me how history has been destroyed in peoples own towns and yet they travel for hours and pay to see what they once had.
