arm rest / door panel installation 1940 coupe
 

Now that I have the window glass pretty much installed in my project , I need to install the door panels and arm rests before I put the inside garnish moulding/vent windows into place. I have the LB upholstery kit.
So what are the steps to install the arm rests? The kit came with the covered arm rests and two metal brackets for each panel. Do I attach these metal brackets on the back side , with the screws provided through the door panel and into the arm rests? Does this metal bracket then hook onto the door structure?
Looks like that would be correct, but wanted to check with you guys before I go wrong here.
Also, is there a right/wrong way to attach the wire clips to the perimeter of the door panel? Do they all go in one direction or is it some in each direction? What method do you recommend to "pop" these into the door frame holes? How about using a piece of wood, like a 2x4 , and use it against the door panel material so the wire clips go in firmly?
Any ideas or methods would be helpful.

Steve, Only one armrest if authenticity matters to you.
You are correct in your prescribed method of installation. There is a slot of sorts in the inner door structure to accept the "hook" of the bracket.
The clips are all installed in one direction. The male end of the clip goes toward the center of the door panel regardless as to whether the clips are on the left, right or bottom of the panel.
I would strongly advise you measure each and every hole LB placed in the panels to be certain they will align with the holes on your door. Quality Control ain't what it used to be...
Use your fist to seat each clip. Make certain both ends of the clip are centered over the hole prior to pushing it in.

Oh, one more thing... make certain the door panel actually fits your door properly - especially near the top and the top - rear edge. You may find it necessary to peal back the vinyl and either trim the inner board or add to it for a tailored appearance.

Kube....thanks for the heads-up on the fit of the door panels. I installed the arm rests today, no problems there.
BUT the fit of the door panels , size-wise was terrible! As you suggested, I carefully installed the clips and test fit onto the door. The LB panels is at least 3/16 inch too wide for the size of the door. I am going to have an upholstery guy peel back the material and take about that much off the rear edge in order to have it fit the door right.
I hate to have to do this , but I sure don't want to be battling that problem forever.

This is an 35 arm rest that was ripped from the door panel, part of the panel is still attached. It shows the mounting technique from the inside of the door panel.

Thanks for that info. The arm rests that i got from CW Moss are just the metal ware and some sponge foam, i have to cover them with the material from the LB kit. Impossible to cover them and then bolt them to door card. Guess the only way is to JB Weld / glue bolts to armrest first ?

Post photos of what you have. There must be a better way than using JB Weld.
