Stupid question from a failed perfectionist!
 

I wanted to install a quarter window in my Town Sedan so I bought the materials from Brattons, at least I thought I did. It turns out I bought "Super Weatherstrip Adhesive". Seems like a good choice, right? Till I start thread the instructions and it says "Avoid putting adhesives on exposed Painted surfaces"! OOO Kayyy So what should I use? There is no way I can install this quarter window without getting some on the paint. Period!

I use it on painted doors to hold the weather strip.

If you can do a test on an area with paint that is not exposed. Some paints (lacquers especially, and air dry enamal) may be partially dissolved and lift. Most multi part epoxies and urethanes should not be affected.

They say don't put it on exposed paint that doesn't mean you can't put it on a painted surface just make sure it doesn't get on paint your going to see , use masking tape to protect those areas. I have used the same glue for forty years and always on paint I used it to hold the welting around my rear fenders before bolting them on works well also the rear what windows on a town sedans.

If you get some where you don't want it you will need adhesive remover to get it off.

There should be no reason for the glue to touch the paint NO?..what did they do when they were built new?

All the surface es should be painted what is the glue gong to touch?

Right he needs to.mask those off that glue is a real.pain to.clean off when it dries

OK Guys! I will proceed with careful application of this goo. My worry (OCD) was that this stuff would dissolve the paint and it would not adhere to the steel.
