39 V8 rebuild bubbling at head bolts

Just finshed installing the rebuilt engine and transmission. Fired right up and runs with solid power and shifts great. Now the issue, coolant is lightly bubbling up thru the head bolt nuts. Liquid is not running down the head, just bubbling. There is no cross contamination to the oil side.

First re-torque.

Re-torque and then drive it. Eventually it will seal itself up. Happens on a few head studs on every engine I have rebuilt until it seals up.

Add a water system sealant.

engine builder recommended adding AlumAsea.

Who put it together? Did they use a high-quality stud thread sealer on the block side? I use a liquid teflon sealer on all of mine - has greatly reduced the problem. Using a block stud sealer will probably resolve it - something like Moroso Ceramic Sealer or IronTite Ceramic Sealer. Here is a good link to read up a bit:

I don't have any of the old ones with studs yet but I always put a little non hardening sealer on the head bolt threads of the 8CM engines I have rebuilt. Those fasteners go right into the coolant passages on many of the thread bores. Retorque after heating & cooling cycles is a must. Just don't overtorque. When the quit moving, they are there to stay.
