37 aluminum heads question
 

OK I'm building a 36 ford coupe and trying to keep it as much period correct as i can. My question is if I should just buy the new aluminum heads with 8:1 compression for the 37 flathead that I'm building or keep on searching for some vintage finned heads. Big problem is I'm currently overseas and my ability to search for stuff is limited to Web restrictions. Just gathering thoughts of what all you think about this and pros and cons with the early heads and new heads....info on the 36 ford is it has 40 ford brakes, 36 Columbia 2 speed rear axle, 37 flathead, 39 ford transmission, 39deluxe steering wheel, redoing the 6 volt system just because and mohair interior with the 36 deluxe gauges

If it were me, I'd pop for the new heads, better quality aluminum, better tolerances etc etc.

Who makes the 8:1 heads for the 21 stud block,$$$.

Yeah he has some sharp heads and sharp intakes for the 21 stud

I think they took over some of the Orosco Monterey Speed & Sport stuff but in any case they usually use block off plates on the heads for the 32 thru 36. I'm not sure anyone makes anything specifically for the 37 model 21 stud right this minute but I have been wrong before. I can't find the Sharp ones on the site but there are photos of pumpless Sharp 21 stud heads out there.

I don't believe Mike Herman at H&H took over Don Orosco's Eddie Meyer repro heads and intake business, but I know he has Navaro and Sharp heads and intakes. We were just at H&H today and Mike gave us a complete tour of his shop. I took over 30 pictures at his place, including pics of most of the speed equipment he has stacked on shelves, including Ardun heads and other components to build aluminum block Ardun engines. Unfortunately, I can't post those pics here but they are all posted on Facebook.

Swarm,
Well , how about using water pump block off plates on your '37 motor
and going with the new '36 type finned heads with a pair of Skips pumps. Still room
for a nice vintage intake and a small 4 brl carb..........just dreamin'

I have been thinking of using the block off plates and using the 36 heads with pumps, but doesn't the pumps on the block improve water flow and cooling?

Pumps in the block I guess were an improvement but if everything is in reasonably good shape ( and with your car I'm sure things are in great shape ) you'll be fine. I'd sure use
Skips pumps.

FoMoCo was kind of behind the power curve on pumping hot water out of the block. The 37 model year was a big improvement. Pumping the cool water into the block is a lot easier on the water pumps for sure plus the exiting hot water comes out the middle of the head which helped cool the rear of the engine a little better.

The 2014 H&H catalog states 21 stud heads "coming soon" under the Al Sharp stuff but maybe they have some cast by now. They also show the Orosco "Eddie Meyer" stuff but they are likely purchasing from him or possibly under licence if Don owns the Eddie Meyer name.

I bought a set of Eddie Meyer repro heads from Vern Tardel in 2010. He had purchased 12 unmachined sets from Orosco and did the final machining. H&H had sets of 21 stud heads on their shelves ready to go. These were not Eddie Meyer, so probably Sharp. Then two years ago I bought an Eddie Meyer 2x2 intake from Orasco. Some would rather buy originals, probably for bragin' rights, but I'm very happy with the repros.

Ok , someONE know or can post the link for de 21 stud aluminum head, i has been looking for years this heads and h&h don't have it .. Or am wrong ?? I have a 1937 Cabrio i want install aluminim head please and thanks for the info !!

There is an outfit in England making 'GEM' 21 stud heads to suit 37's. Seen them on eBay. Not cheap, but nothing is, is it?
