markings Hello
I see a "52 flathead" on CL he says it's a Merc, but gives no other info. He does show a picture with a stamping of 52 in a square and a 2 H next to it. Any Idea about the engine... it's been dissembled I did count 24 studs, and no extended bell-housing thanks |
Re: markings The markings mean nothing to the public.

Re: markings 1 Attachment(s)
The numbers don't indicate the year.
It's weird because of the head studs installed. It may be a Merc. engine based on the 1CM stamping on the crank. If the carb. and heads are original it's not a 52'. |
Re: markings 51 Merc
Thanks for the info Think I'll take a drive out there and look at it.. $400 is not bad, |
Re: markings If it's got a good 4" crank, that's worth $200.00 by itself.

Re: markings This one just came on line
looks like a crack next to the valve http://losangeles.craigslist.org/wst...821058390.html |
Re: markings The tranny will make a good boat anchor!
Good news is that crack is easily repairable with a new seat, new sleeve and pinning the block. |
Re: markings to tell you the truth I need another project like a need a hole in the head...
but would like to have a Flathead, but If I do go for it, I think the 8cm is the one.. |
Re: markings Just remember, the heads and intake, as well as all the other bolt on stuff is interchangeable. The big difference between a ford and Merc is the crankshaft. However in this day and age, the block is the most important part of the engine. A good one is worth it's weight in Gold.

Re: markings The hogs head on that 4-speed is probably worth $100-$150.
