Route of ebrake cable for 41 I borrowed this shot from another post. Is this the correct routing of the e brake cable? Where would it cross under the frameand clamp? It also shows the correct route of the speedo cable and gas line?

Re: Route of ebrake cable for 41 3 Attachment(s)
Would not want that tight of an S-turn in either e-brake or speedo cables. First picture shows both cables coming through the firewall near the left kick panel and doing a 180 turn under the back of the horn dome. Photo #2 shows speedo cable running down inboard side of the X member, and eBrake down the outside of the X member. Look for them emerging from under the horn dome. Photo 3 shows the speedo cable near the left radius rod, going up into the center X to the speedometer gear on the driveshaft housing. The eBrake cable runs under the master cylinder and then up into the rear of the frame X.
Both cables have been replaced on this car, so no guarante these pictures represent original stock routing. Sorry the pictures are upside down; they were rightside up on my computer. But this is my first attempt to post pictures on Ford Barn. |
Re: Route of ebrake cable for 41 7 Attachment(s)
Shown below is the E-Brake and Speedo cable routing on my 40. I would think 41 would be similar. Keep in mind that you want to install both with no sharp turns. In my photos you can just see the rubber grommet that fits into the oblong hole in firewall. This is for the E Brake cable and the speedo. cable. In your photo, what is that S-curved rubber hose for?

No. Thanks for pointing that out as it could chaff and cause a major problem if it were secured to a moving part. Electrical fire is not anyone's friend.

Re: Route of ebrake cable for 41 I am guessing that the rubber line bent in an s curve is a fuel line. The PO of my 41 did the same thing. Ran a rubber fuel line all the way from the tank.

Re: Route of ebrake cable for 41 You can see the e-brake on the outside of the frame rail next to the fuel line. The speedo cable is right in the middle near the clutch.
Although I am uncertain if those are the correct locations. |
Re: Route of ebrake cable for 41 It's actually my 47 Tudor in the picture. The "S" curve is electrical wires. They will eventually be removed for stock wires coming from the rear. The E-brake cable is right behind the black electrical cable. My car had a mickey mouse aftermarket cable and I replaced it with the correct one. Because my shop manuals didn't clearly lay out a map, I did what I thought would be the correct path. If someone can help me that would be great.

No I see what you mean. You are correct. I will remove that tie wrap. Thanks for enlightening me. |
Re: Route of ebrake cable for 41 I just bought a truck that is titled as a 41 but it does not have an oblong hole for the e-cable/speedo cable. Could this be a different cab or did someone change out the floor of the cab with an incorrect panel?

Re: Route of ebrake cable for 41 Horace: The 1941 firewall grommet is different than 1939 and 1940. Looks like this:
https://cwmoss.com/products/speedome...mergency-brake If you Google "1941 Ford emergency brake firewall grommet" lots more info. and vendors pop up. |
