Almost 50 years and never knew.....
 

My dad bought my '29 Tudor in the late 60s, from a fellow whose son ran an upholstery shop. The car came with a 'burnt orange naugahyde' interior (it was the 60s, after all). I just stripped off the old covers to find the original rear seat material still attached. Baxter the dog is interested, because two mice ran out of the front seat when I stripped one of them....

That is cool! Always great to have original upholstery to see how Henry did it. I discovered the same thing on my 30 Standard Coupe-original upholstery covered with modern cheapo stuff.

Naugahyde was very popular back then. So much so that the Nauga's are now extinct. :cool:

Under aftermarket seat covers, once I found a Ladies' DIAMOND WATCH, sold it for $500.00.

Save swatches of all of the original materials you find in your Model A. They will come in handy, or donate them to MAFFI.

I had my hand inside the rear quarter window of my 1942 Chevy business coupe. A field mouse or two had made their home in the seat, so I was removing debris such as cotton (In case you don't know that cotton has spikes in it, believe me, your fingers will let you know) from inside the body panel at the time when my hand felt that something I had grabbed began to wiggle to free itself from my grip. (Brown shorts moment).

Well, I hurriedly removed my hand and arm and went and grabbed a water hose to blast the thing out. I left the water running for a while and i didn't stick around, as I had a pretty good idea as to what that wriggling thing was that I had handled. I came back much later and found a 3' long snake skin floating in the lower body section. Never saw the mouse or the snake though. The car had been sitting in a field for years and down in Texas it is always wise to check for rattlers in any old car that has been out in a field for a while. Field mice i can deal with, but snakes; not so much. :-)

That darn cotton balls from the field can really do a number on your fingers and hands when mated up in bunches as was this stuff. It is like grabbing onto a cactus plant with no gloves on. (Ouchie!) . The tons of mouse droppings I had to remove had me worried about contacting the hantavirus, too.

Maybe you could sell the burnt orange naugahyde seat covers on E-Bay to one of the "rat rod" guys looking for that authentic 60's look. I am surprised at the stuff they are interested in.
