34 intake on 32

Is there anyone who specializes in rebuilding Detroit Lubricator carburetors ? If not my thought is to install an intake from a late 33 or 34. What is needed to make the swap ? Thanks, Jeff

I think his name was Rudy Faltamire (or Faltemire (Spelling)) in Spartanburg S.C. Not sure if he is still doing them but will try and see if we still have some contact info its been over 11 years.....He did a wonderful job on ours and ran ours perfectly. Perhaps in the mean time someone on the Barn may have his info???

Re: 34 intake on 32

What I've seen a lot of guys do is pull the original 32 intake (with DL carb and fuel pump) and generator (saving them!) and then putting a 33/34 intake on. To do this you'll need:

a) 33/34 intake
b) 34-39 3 brush generator (not sure if these years are all the same???) - but you want one that has the air-cooled pulley and the 4-bolt fan mount.
c) 32 Fan
d) Stromberg 48 or 97 carb (34 came with a 48) - much better carb and easier to work on than the old DL on a 32.
e) 34 or later fuel pump and associated push rod.
f) Breather cap for the fuel pump stand.

I've always heard that this swap is a great improvement over the 1 barrel DL carb - but that statement is not based on my experiences (have never ran a DL carb!).

Good luck!

I can attest it is worth the effort. My 32 with stock 85 runs great. I say 85 cause it has a 34/5 block but had a 1 barrel manifold when I got it.

I would recommend using a 37 intake. Original 32 intakes mount the generator quite low and close to the manifold. 34's put it quite high and cause clearance problems with the fan blades.

If your still interested, Rudolph Faltermeier (864) 463-6052, 150 Rockridge Rd Spartanburg SC 29307. [email protected]. He redid ours DL and again did a great job. It runs our 32 along very good, we have 3:54 gears and it clips along 50-55 no problems.

Re: 34 intake on 32

I ended up using a 37 intake, 40 generator w/original 32 fan, Stromberg 97 carburetor and it worked out perfectly without any clearance issues. Thanks for your responses.

Today, for the first time I was able to get my car out. WOW! Such and amazing result with this new combo, the power and so smooth. I'm looking forward to having a lot of fun this summer.
