1928 Drum taillight lower gasket Ordered the gaskets for the drum taillight from Brattons THINKING that is all I needed as there were just two listed.
Come time to assemble the taillight, I went to assemble the lower gasket for the A-13445 taillight white lense...Hmmmmmmthe darn gasket is just to thick to assemble the lense. So I got out the trusty old Parts Price List to look see and guess what...there is apparently no gasket used in that area...as a matter of fact, Bratton's has it listed as A13647 (19590) and there is no A13647 even listed in the PPL's. Moral of the story...check what you are getting from any repro companies to the PPL's as you just may get some stuff you do not need. Pluck |
Re: 1928 Drum taillight lower gasket I think I ran into the same problem on one of mine. But then on an apparent repo from years and years ago it fits just fine.

Re: 1928 Drum taillight lower gasket Pluck you mean the gasket for the license plate lens? (White lens) Is that what your discussing..curious....

Re: 1928 Drum taillight lower gasket The first time I ordered one of these gaskets for the clear license plate lens from one of the parts places, I got a gasket cut in the correct shape for the teacup tail light. It went back and I got one that was cut correctly.
I'm surprised to hear that there never was a gasket on this lens originally. The one I got seemed to fit well and seal where the glass contacts the metal. YMMV. |

I have several original Drum tail light setups with white lense and there is no old gasket present. So...was there or was there not? Pluck |
Re: 1928 Drum taillight lower gasket I have never seen a gasket on the drum clear lens. I have however, seen a thin round paper gasket on the ruby lens.

Re: 1928 Drum taillight lower gasket I noticed that the clear lens (for lighting the license plate) on my early '28 open cab pickup was broken so I got a new one and a gasket from Snyders. It all fit nicely. This car has a March '28 serial number and a black drum tail light. I don't know if it's an old repro or not.

Re: 1928 Drum taillight lower gasket looking at my drum setup for 7191 NO there is NO gasket..my guess henry felt WHY? it was at the bottom, no need to stop moisture or anything, as time went by it was realized that moisture came in from the top and it stopped rattle, that is a guess but made a lot of sense to me..

Re: 1928 Drum taillight lower gasket Per the Ford Parts List dated Jan 1 1928 there is no gasket for either of the lens. However there is a gasket listed #A-13460 ... Tail light body gasket for $0.01. By the picture this appears to be a round thin gasket.
