36 Pickup cowl lace / hood retainer question

Is the cowl lace supposed to continue across the center and go under the hood center mount,
OR
Does it go like what I've started to do and cut the ends in the center?

I had to shim it up pretty high to get the hood close to being level with the cowl.

Just went downstairs to take the picture for you , its my 35 Pickup . I think you're fine they way you have it.
