1941 Pickup Drive Train So i just purchased a 1941 Ford Pickup. The flathead motor appears to be locked up so I was thinking about putting a 327 small block in it. I realize i will have to adjust the firewall in order to do so. I plan to pair it with an automatic transmission and replace the original rear end or axel on the truck. I am curious if others have done something similar? I was wondering if anyone has replaced the rear axel with something more modern and what would possibly be a somewhat perfect fit in the truck? Any advice is much appriciated.

Re: 1941 Pickup Drive Train You will probably find that a few people here have done that but you would have much better response if you went to the HAMB website: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/

Re: 1941 Pickup Drive Train Yup, move over to the H.A.M.B.

Re: 1941 Pickup Drive Train No, you don't have to move the firewall. Use the old way to mount the motor, that is use a saddle mount. Mounts just like a flat head, keep your stock running gear. Makes for a great 50's style hot rod.

Re: 1941 Pickup Drive Train Since you want to change all the drivetrain, check out Chassis Engineering for top notch installation kits that work and fit. Pretty much the standard for a DIY changeover.

Re: 1941 Pickup Drive Train Maybe, but it's his truck.

Re: 1941 Pickup Drive Train They haven't built any since 1941 and there are no plans to build any in the future. When the last one is gone, they are all gone.

Re: 1941 Pickup Drive Train Where are my manners? Welcome to the Fordbarn! A place full of good information and diverse opinions and passions. Here's some: replace the "stuck" motor with a known runner. That's what I'm doing on my 41.
The expense and labor of a simple engine swap and radiator check versus a full blown drivetrain replacement has led to many a burn out, and an unfinished project for sale. That's what happened for me. I have ALL the pieces for the 350/350, 9 inch swap, but I guess my old age nostalgia longings won out. A flattie it is. But, it's your truck. Time to do some parts math and check your abilities. Post a pic of the new member of the family. |
Re: 1941 Pickup Drive Train Welcome.
Be sure and post some pics of your truck. Build your truck your way for your optimum enjoyment, whatever that is. |
Re: 1941 Pickup Drive Train If it's a four cylinder DO IT. Just kidding.
