Interior cooling

Not wanting to install an air conditioner in my car, but since I live in South Florida, and my car is my daily driver, I was wandering if anyone ever mounted a small fan like we use to mount to our roll bars to keep cooler when racing. And if so, do you know where I could find one that is 6 volt?

Computer fans are about 6 volts. Also junk yards should have older vehicles with 6 volt fans. I just bought a 6 volt squirrel cage fan at a swap meet for $3 to use for the heater I want to install in my Model A.

I thought about using an ice chest with 6 volt fan and set it on the pass floor, modify it with holes so fan would blow on driver ,put some ice in it and get cool ?? does anyone think it would work ?

It should work for a couple hours until the ice melts. If you live in a dry area an evaporative cooler might help.

I used a CHEEP computer fan over the exhaust heater outlet, it about DOUBLED the air volume!

How about those heat shields that they sell for the muffler. They're easy enough to make and maybe an hour and a half to install. I made two so far, but I really can't say if they're working well, there's still a lot of heat. But they must be doing something.

So if I understand you correctly, you are wanting to know if you can put a fan in to circulate the hot air already inside your vehicle. IMHO, you are generating just as much heat from the exterior of the body and top as you are from the underside. While the advice above is great, I think you need to look at insulating the total package which includes the roof. Below are some pix of a couple of vehicles we have insulated.

(Then, later after you have insulated it and you decide you do need A/C, you can do a clean installation that looks correct yet can be removed.)

Brent, I bet those cars SOUND awesome inside also. Nice and Solid. I did my '55 Ranchwagon like that, great improvement.

Your kick panels, does anyone sell those? I would love to have a little more storage for small things I carry with me. Altho I would have to move my "Fire Extinguisher"

You can get portable, battery operated fans at Walmart, Target, etc. for $10 or so.
