42 Ford overheated

Will using a modern thermostat in the 226 flat 6 cause it to overheat?

Long story short, the generator either moved or the belts stretched and the fan wasn't spinning to pull air through the radiator. It blew anti-freeze out of the radiator and did percolate a little bit.

I fixed all that and I am thinking it may be be running a little hot at 60 mph. 185 to 190 with a modern style 180 thermostat.

The engine was rebuilt, but the machine shop did not acid soak it, they baked it. They've been doing engines for a long time (40+ years) and say they've always done this.

It has the 0 pressure cap, but I think I may want to use a 4lb cap. It has a NOS radiator and modern style NORS water pump (curved fins vs straight fins).

Use a pressure cap.

185 to 190 is not bad as long as it stays there!

Did you ever have the radiator rodded out? I'm sure there are shops in Louisville!
