Re: Kelsey-Hayes 17" Wheels How did you determine that they are Kelsey Hayes? Fred A
|
Re: Kelsey-Hayes 17" Wheels Oh... Yeah. Fred A is alluding to the fact that they may be made by Motor Wheel.
Most of the 18" and 17" are usually made by Motor Wheel. |

Re: Kelsey-Hayes 17" Wheels I asked a Model A friend of mine who builds national award winning cars. Although Model A information doesn't always directly transfer to the V8 era, I thought he was a good guy to ask.
The spokes on the wheels have a slight bend at the rim. Are there any other ways to determine what these are? I guess posting a picture might help??? I'll try to get a photo. |
Re: Kelsey-Hayes 17" Wheels Motor Wheels have 36 spokes and Kelsey's have 40.

Re: Kelsey-Hayes 17" Wheels the Kelsey hayes wheels have bent spokes
|
Re: Kelsey-Hayes 17" Wheels Seems that we have a nice collection of wheel misconceptions. The bent spoke and the spoke count are not absolutes. The bent spoke Kelsey with 40 spokes refers to the aftermarket wheels sold for years to replace those of Fords and other makes. When making wheels for Ford, the wheels could be made to the specifications of the customer or not. Other makers like Motor Wheel seem to have had fewer spokes than Kelsey, but time has erased what could have been a broader product line. Kelsey Hayes made wheels long beyond the spoke era. Their logo pops up long after the signature era, or just a simple K-H.. Ford made wheels were marked with the FoMoCo after 1950. The complex story went on for decades. Good Luck: Fred A
