'35 pickup chassis

Some fool chopped off the rear most cross piece on my pickup chassis. What mounts to this rear piece?

Re: '35 pickup chassis

Rear body blocks for the bed.

Re: '35 pickup chassis

Those cross pieces are weak and often damaged by people using them to attach chains for towing. This is your opportunity to use a better piece :)

Re: '35 pickup chassis

Well, I think they left enough of it for the bed blocks because I removed them when I removed the bed. My truck did not have a rear bumper. I'm not sure I care about this, but does the rear bumper mount to this piece?

Re: '35 pickup chassis

No factory rear bumper on a 35.

Re: '35 pickup chassis

Heard, just finishing my pickup body project and I noticed how weak this cross brace is alsol. Dropping the tailgate make this brace flex a lot. I don't have the floor boards in yet so that's not helping either. I think I'll add something to the existing brace to stiffen it up

Vanspeed...that answers my question about the bumper. Thanks!

Jakno...do you happen to have any pics of this thing?

Re: '35 pickup chassis

If you did mount a bumper it would mount to the main frame rails not the weak cross piece.

Re: '35 pickup chassis

Not sure about a 35 pickup , but the 38 and up bumper brackets do bolt to the cross piece and frame rail. The inner iron bolts there. On the 35-36 passenger car the bracket for the bumper irons also bolts to the crosspiece. One side of the bracket bolts to the rear frame rail and the other side of the bracket to the crosspiece.

The frame diagram might be helpful, also from Wescotts.

Yep, a little sloppy there. Should have said the "main" connection is to the frame rails. Thanks for the correction TJ

I have used the one from Wescott's - no problems, very good quality.

Heard, I'll PM you a picture of my pickup rear cross member. Can't figure out how to do it on this version. Too many moving parts.

Heard, attached is a picture of my tailgate attached to what I think is the cross member your referring too. It's pretty flimsy with the tailgate open but should be fine after I install the wood blocks underneath the bed floorboards.

The picture of the bolts is a misprint. My other name !.

Are we talking about the bed rear crossmember or the frame? Thought we were talking about the rear frame crossmember.
