Installing water pump shaft collar I have to much water pump shaft in and out play . I have read on the fourm to install shaft collar . The collar comes with a
Plastic washer . I assume the the collar and washer go on the shaft just behind the nose on the water pump . You have the fan , going backwards towards the motor . Front casting of the pump . Then the open space . I think that is where the shaft collar goes . Washer then collar. Am I right . Miff |
Re: Installing water pump shaft collar Plastic washer, collar, then the fan blade.

Re: Installing water pump shaft collar be sure to use a hardened metal washer behind the castle nut that holds the fan on. You cannot rely on the nut alone, since it will dig into the soft aluminum.
We use head bolt hardened washers Pioneer S 1018 get from local parts store. Fan should really come with this washer but it doesn't. Without it, the nut digs into the soft aluminum and the fan gets loose and then all is lost |
Re: Installing water pump shaft collar Tbirdbird, would a stainless steel washer be strong enough?
|
Re: Installing water pump shaft collar sure, if you can get one with a small enough OD, or take a small OD one to start and make the ID bigger.
The Pioneer washers have a small OD and I do not have to fool with a die grinder, etc |
Re: Installing water pump shaft collar Thanks for the help . When I rebuilt the pump a year ago or so . I installed the shaft collar right in front of the pump front casting . Set the Allen screw, put the fan on and set it on the shelf and forgot it. In time it came off the shelf and installed on the speedster . The problem with the to much end play was because I didn't set the adjustment correct. Removed the pump , removed the fan , and there was the shaft collar . I didn't remember installing the collar .
