I thought I had died and gone to V8 Heaven!! No immaculate restorations, the last 2 are New Zealand Colonial Cabs. Not as nice as the American cabs.(In my opinion.

When I saw this truck, in a previously posted picture, I wondered if it came from the factory with the passenger car front end, and raised cab roof, or did some previous owner make these modifications?
Thanks again for sharing. Would love to come down and see all of this collection in person.

They were designed that way because of the Colonial hats worn by New Zealanders in the early to mid thirties.....

You Kiwis definitely take better care of these old Ford V8's than us Aussies. New Zealand is a much smaller country than Australia, and has fewer people, yet the amount of Early Ford V8's that you still have is amazing. You had the added advantage that your cars were imported from Canada resulting in a greater variety of body styles, body styles that were never offered in Australia.

OH MY GOODNESS. I'm lucky the ticker is still pumping! Those two, '35 and '36, can come sit in my driveway anytime! Lucky I don't have a teleporter or they'd be here now!

Does anyone know why the two rectangular slots and 2 holes might have been put in the hood of the 1940 Tonner. Also it has what looks like a M/H front axle. Would that have been something commonly used in NZ? Is it possible this is a military vehicle? It's mind boggling to see all this iron in such good condition under one roof. Thanks for sharing your photos.

PS:Thanks - John (JM 35 Sedan) for the tip in downloading and attaching a photo from a thread. It worked like a charm!

How do i get in touch with the owner of the collection? I interested in the back window of the 2nd to last photo of the colonial cab. My wife has one but I think the rear window is not correct on hers.

Hi xpvar. I can only imagine the two holes were to let more air in.Yes it is M/H front axle.and heavier than a tonner on bigger wheels.Probably came here ex U.S. and were used here after the war for such things as country fire appliances, well drilling rigs and crossing back country rivers. Most of the 4x4 Fords that came here were Canadian Military Pattern and came here as part of the commonwealth war effort. Cheers
