pic of trunk handle installation please? (1935 Coupe)

Im trying to get my rear hanle to lock if i mount the handle in the vericle position the tang locks into the decklid and it locks fine. But the hanlde is the wrong way. what am I missing, is car of the hanle suppose to spin? A pic would be appreciated.

Vertical is the proper position. The plate at the bottom of the handle will rotate until the handle is mounted onto the deck lid and the rubber seal.
