trunk wont lock (1935 Coupe)

Hi, wondering if theres a trick to getting the trunk lock to work, like the set screw on the door lock. When i got my car it had no keys, i had keys made and retained the locks that were in the door and trunk. We have an old timer lock smith that works magic and made one key that turns both tumblers without changing them. So at first both my tumblers would turn and not lock. After taking the door lock apart i realized the set screw was not seating all the way. now the door lock works fine. Is there a similar set screw to the trunk lock im missing? The tumbler turns both ways but never locks the handle. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks Kevin

Update I took it apart and now it locks and unlocks. But in order for the pin to lock in it needs to be facing this way. What do I have to reverse to make it go the right direction?

Thanks Kevin

Remove the handle keeper and nut from the latch and turn it 90 degrees, the shaft is square so this should be an easy fix.

But the tang that engages the slot in the deck lid can only face to the left, is the handle frozen on the shaft? Is the whole handle suppose to spin?

The facts of this matter are that you don't have a problem!! Trunk handles are supposed to fit vertically (at least any I've seen) as opposed to those on rumble lids that are horizontal.

Youre kidding? I cant find a pic anywhere on the net and all the orinal pics are blocked by the spare tire. Can any other 35-36 owners confirm?

Kevin, I went through the same as you on mine - I just couldn't get my head around having to put the key in sideways as being a stock feature, but I'm pretty sure it is.

If you don't care about originality and would sooner have the handle horizontal and the key fitting in "normally", all you should have to do is cut a new locking slot on either the top or bottom (depending on how you prefer to insert the key) of the round deck lid hole, and insert the square handle shaft accordingly.

Here's a few pictures of handle orientation:

Thanks for the help Randy. I would have lost all my chips on that bet. My car is not very original so ill have to think about slotting the lid. Thanks again for all the pics and help
