Has anyone tried '' water blasting'' (water +ground glass) on their cars?

Sounds like a good idea as it should keep the heat and warping way down.

I've used a water blaster with silica sand quite a number of times to remove graffiti etc... (dang vandals)
Never used it on fenders but did use it on some heaver steel on old single cylinder gas engines. Takes rust off quite well. Need to get it dried off quickly to prevent rust flash over.
