The Forge, "Good on ya" 3 Attachment(s)
Drove the phaeton 1000 miles from Chicagoland to Loveland CO for the MAFCA meet last week. Cruising 55 - 65 mph the whole way, no worries the entire way. Until ...20 yards from the motel parking spot and the car sputters and dies. Daughter #2 and I push the car into the spot and let it cool down for inspection.
Turns out the tubular steel intake manifold developed some significant cracks. Recalled an earlier FordBarn post from Rex at The Forge in Loveland CO offering his shop to MAFCA attendees in distress. I brought the intake to his shop the next morning. The guys at The Forge took my manifold, immediately weld it up, and I was back on the mountain roads that afternoon. A few hundred high altitude miles and 1000 flat land miles back to Chicagoland later, the repair is holding up well. So ... in the words of some of the Kiwis I met at the meet, "Good on ya, Forge!" Peace, Phred |
Re: The Forge, "Good on ya" They certainly made that better than new adding the gussets, nice job
good on the Forge:) That was a heck of a trip good on u 2 |
Re: The Forge, "Good on ya" I had the same problem when I added a second carburetor (ala Charlie Yapp), the weld cracked 3 times so I finally braised it, been running great for 3 years with no further cracking.

Re: The Forge, "Good on ya" original guy should have put fillets in like the repair job id say it will never give troubles again now
btw whose header is that? |

Re: The Forge, "Good on ya" I see a spacer under the Lion Head III.
Is it an early LH III with clearance problems with 1.7 valves? Now I see that it is the header plate that I am looking at ... Never mind. Had to fly cut the early one I had to clear the 1.7 valves. What is carb used? Do you have an automatic transmission? |
Re: The Forge, "Good on ya" Benson,
had no clearance problems with 1.7 valves, but did relieve the intake area of the head later to improve flow. Carb is an English Stromberg 97, transmission is stock. Peace, Phred |
Re: The Forge, "Good on ya" IT was great to see all the Model A's running around town last week. I didn't get all my issues sorted out with the Phaeton but i was able to drive it out there on Wednesday.
I'm glad the guys were able to get your intake welded up |
