1934 Ford Cabriolet, European body.
 

Came across this for sale on PreWarCar . It,s in Hungary. Have a look at the photo of the engine bay. What would be the purpose of the two adjustable fittings Left & Right side that i have arrowed in green ? Tighten up a sloppy body maybe ??? Or just standard practice as the cowl and screen have no upper support. Actually it looks like a good idea. Guess i answered my own question.:o

If you look at the picture closely it looks like the black piece at the bottom of the firewall isn't attached to the top body-coloured piece, kind of like a 2 piece firewall which may be those fittings have been used. They may be steadying the bottom piece. Never seen that on any other ford...

Hi Henry. I'd say they're stiffening/adjuster rods to allow the cowl and windscreen to align properly with the doors, and to resist the pull of the tightly fitting hood. (As you suspected).

I don't know what that part does, all I can comment on is that is one fine looking automobile.

It does look good with the "factory" chopped windscreen and roof. I imagine the rear might not end as nicely as a US made '34 though?

Mart is correct, they are adjustment rods/strengthening rods. They help support the weight of the cowl section and also aid in door alignment but Mostly top fittment, same as on our German 32 pictured here and also on our German 35. ALL the German cabriolets had them.
