Heaters

Today I was driving a fordor and noticed the heater was blowing much stronger that on my coupe. Looking under the hood I saw a plastic 6 bleade fan. Would this be the reason? Does anyone have any experience changing to a 6 blade for better heat? I use the stock apearing aluminum fan.

I saw a local fellow who had an Autolight manifold heater (as we have all seen in the past) but this one was different. He had purchased a small squirrel cage type blower (12v) from a local electrical supply house(Grangier) and it was mounted on the front (intake) of the manifold heater. He had a two or three speed switch under the dash.

Toasty!!

This fellow comes into our store on occassion. I"ll see if I can catch him a get a photo. I was pretty impressed. I don't know when I'll see him, so when I do, I get a photo and start a new thread. Keep warm! (26 and snow here this AM)

Not really heater related, but just Friday when I was swapping out my water pump and then started the car with the six blade fan, I really notices a LOT of air being moved from front to back. Those fans really move the air.

Re: Heaters

My Townsedan with aluminum fan and heater that attaches to the top of a stock manifold provides decent heat but not like the heater manifolds. In comparision my coupe with the plastic fan gives off heat similar to a small candle! Both have everything else set-up the same. I realize this is contrary to yours. I thought maybe the longer aluminum blade drove air into the heater intake whereas the shorter plastic blades didn't align or direct air in.

Re: Heaters

The rectangular funnel intake at the front of the manifold is easily extended larger and closer to the fan with a simple sheet metal extension. Quite a few old manifold heater covers have a hole or two near the front edge of the intake casting where that type of once-popular extension was attached. Bigger funnel. Pretty simple. Perhaps someone has a picture of one and can post it?
