Can anyone explain why the generator wire on a pos ground 28 ford goes to the neg terminal.I can't seem to get any voltage from the gen after it was rebuilt. Thanks

It's because the generator is polarized so that the housing is positive, and the output terminal is negative, so it should go to the negative battery terminal.

How do you know you are getting no voltage? Did you measure the output with a voltmeter or are you going by the ammeter reading?

Measure the voltage at the generator terminal, just in case the cutout is bad. With a bad cutout that is open, you'll cook the generator in minutes. You can also use a jumper wire between the two cutout terminals to bypass the cutout, but remove it as soon as the engine is turned off, or that can also burn out the generator, and kill the battery.
