Setting rear main What are you guys using to remove and install the 3/4" nuts that secure the rear main?
tbirdtbird uses this... "I took a 3/4" 1/2" drive socket and welded a 3/4" nut onto it and then I use a box wrench usually with a cheater pipe to set them" Any other ideas? Thanks! |
Re: Setting rear main I just welded a socket to a wrench. Usually to break them loose I just double wrench until they first start to move.
These pretty much eliminates using a torque wrench when putting things back together. A torque wrench really isn't needed, but, a pretty idea of getting the required 'tonnage' can be practiced with a wrench and comparing it to a torque wrench on other fasteners. But, good and tight is just fine [ about 80#] |
Re: Setting rear main Thanks, Patrick!

Re: Setting rear main I experimented a little and my 3/8" drive 3/4" socket and 3/8" breaker bar worked fine. It was tight, but worked.

Re: Setting rear main Good. Good luck.

Re: Setting rear main I found the wobbly socket extension is very helpful. Breaker bar to remove and torque wrench to install.

Re: Setting rear main 1 Attachment(s)
In the era there were special tools made to do the job, this tool is square at one end, 12 point socket at the other
