Trying to make a point.
 

I have been enjoying this sight for some time. I purchased a 1929 Model A about 6 months ago, sold my regular daily and have been driving this car every day since. And the point I am trying to make is, these cars were built to drive and enjoy. I average about 150 to 200 miles a week. Hoping to hear from others who do the same.

You drive yours like I would like to drive mine, but work is an 80 round trip for me.
Just waiting for my wife to retire, then I will start to think about it.
Once I retire I will drive it everyday, everywhere.

I drive mine as much as I can, mostly on week-ends, but some before work. (night shift)
Averaging 50-80 miles a week...weather depending.
Shooting for 1000 miles plus this year, 1500 would be great. Did a little over 500 miles last year, but then again, that was the first year my car had been run since 1958.

I'm just curious where you are. Having a Model A as your only car is a very different experience in New Mexico than it is New Hampshire. Obviously, it can be done anywhere.

I drive my cars a combined total of about 2000 miles per year. I don't like to drive them in the rain (and it rains a lot in Portland), not because I don't want them to get wet, but because many drivers are new to Oregon and don't know how to drive in the rain, especially in the fall.

I am becoming even more cautious, though, because in the last five years or so we have had something like a 20% increase in population in the greater Porland area, and there is a corresponding increase in traffic, of course. And even in the city people are driving too fast. The only accident I have been involved in in my Model A in over 50 years was caused by a fool coming around a corner too fast in his zoomcar and hitting my coupe.

Between my '28 Phaeton (good weather) and my '31 Dlx Coupe (bad weather) I drive my Model A's quite a lot around town, throughout the year. California has a LOT of bed things about it - but it does have good year-round weather.

One note to be concerned about:
If you drive your car often and frequently (as in 'Daily Driver') outside of 'Club' events, your 'Antique Car Insurance' will not be valid, nor pay any monies if you are in an accident. So for frequent 'Daily Driver' use, you might want to consider (if you have not already) getting Auto Insurance that covers your frequent, everyday, driving.

At that rate your changing the oil every 3rd week!!

A couple years back, my Model A was my daily driver. Hope to get back into that mode here in a couple of weeks when I get a few kinks worked out.

Welcome to Fordbarn. I haven't given up my other cars, but when it's roadster weather (lots of that in Nevada) it is my main transportation. Only a few miles to work or anything else around here so it works out great. Feels like I'm getting away with driving a go-cart. Never get tired of the ride.

Thanks for the response. I do have the insurance I need for a daily. And yes I do change the oil every 5 hundred. The guys at auto zone really like me. I will continue to post, as I am always checking for the quick fixes or the best way to do something, I always seem to find help here.

I can't believe no one has asked. What 29 Model A is it? Coupe,Roadster, Tudor....? And share a picture or two of your adventures, we like pictures. I drive my Coupe a lot not daily but a lot.

Welcome to the hobby. I find it strange for the need to post that a person uses their A for more than a few miles a year. This is in no way a negative to you, not at all but a wonderment that more are not doing what you are doing and this type of post is out of the average use for the car. There should be no reason why everyone should not be driving as much as you are.

Congratulations for using your car. I hope for many years of enjoyment of your A. Continue to use it like it was intended to be used.

In trying to find trips that would encompass more members, we sent a questionnaire to the members asking how many miles round trip they were comfortable in driving their cars. The board figured they could use that data and the location of members homes to plan more inclusive trips. The average answer was 30 miles. Yes 30 miles round trip. In the same questionnaire we asked what worries you most about driving your A? This question was left blank on almost all the papers.

30 miles? Some members of our club have to drive 30 miles just to get to the meeting point for most of our tours. And our tours can run 80 or 100 miles. But our main club activity is tours, so it works OK. I think some of the other clubs run even longer routes. Drive 'em! :p

This coming Saturday, our club is taking a weekend trip that is close to 200 miles each way.


And that's one of thier shorter trips.

Last year's "long-distance" trip was close to 2,000 miles over a week's time.

I cannot agree with you more! I'm just about the southern most member and it's 40-50 miles just to get to an event never mind the event and back home, and I still take the car out for "test" rides all the time. I've been given the clubs mileage award a bunch of times. I don't let them read my odometer anymore to give someone else a chance.
