Hi Folks

Wondering three things for my 39 and friends 40. Both cars will have front sway bar - 39 from CE and 40 stock.

We are thinking about ordering the rear sway bar from CE.

The first question is for those who have already done this. Is there a big improvement?

Second question was it hard to install? Anything to be aware of?

Last question CE has 2 - one is axle mount and other is not, which is recommended:

I have the CE front and rear sway bar and made a big difference how my '36 handles; car always felt like it wanted to roll over going around a corner. I also have the rear parallel leaf springs installed at the the same so I can't be certain how the sway bar would work with buggy spring and Houdallie (sp) shocks. Rear sway bar easy to install. I used the
rear sway bar that came with FK- 3540 rear end kit which looks like the SB-3540R bar.

Andy, You really don't need a rear sway bar. Save your dough for something else.
But, if you MUST have one, make sure it fits the stock rear. PS: I don't have one on my 40. No problems.

Andy, the first link you attached says it is for "their" rear end kit. I think that is a parallel rear spring kit. The second mounts to the axle and attaches to brackets on the frame. It looks to me like the axle mounted kit would be the one for a stock rear/spring set-up. To be clear, I would call Chassis Engineering before ordering.

I think how much you need it is an individual opinion. It is sure to make your car take curves flatter, how much and is it worth it is a personal decision. You might install a front bar and see if that is enough improvement.

I used CE front and rear sway bars for my '46 Wagon and they were very easy to install, both came with easy to understand instructions.

Andy, looks like the sb-3540R will not work with stock rear and spring set up ,this is for chassis engineering parallel leaf set up, the SB3540A may work with stock rear ,it would be worth a call to their tech line before you order, or you can ask tom the 40 man from millstone ,he would know .

IMO a sway bar on the rear is the best single improvement that can be made on a '40 Ford.
If your cars still have the stock rear axles under them, Bob Drake sells a bolt on kit that works really well.

Just from my experience with my 35 pickup I would say not required if you still have a transverse leaf standard setup. All I have is lowered springs tube shocks and a CE bar up front and its great the way it is.

When I had my 40 I had a dropped axle, tube shocks, and a front sway bar. Since I took the car long distances and therefore loaded the truck up with spare parts, tools, etc, I used gas style tube shocks. That stiffened the rear enough to not need a rear sway bar ....

I have both front and rear CE on my 40 2 Door. I installed the front and drove for awhile then installed the rear. The improvement was VERY noticeable for both. In other words each installation provided improvements.

On my stock rearend I used something CE listed for a Lincoln which mounted on the axle housings. Mods were not difficult to get the thing installed but I was not working under a shade tree.

Drake has a rear sway bar kit for stock rearends. I have one not installed mine yet but all the parts look to be good quality

I'm told the drake rear sway only fits stock rear, if you buy the package that includes shocks ($225). Is this true?

Both myself and my 40 friend already have tube shocks.

The Drake kit fits '37-'40 Ford with the stock axles, includes tube shocks. There is a kit for stock height spring & a kit for lowered cars.
Both kits require the tailpipe(s) to be reworked, not a big deal.

If you really drive your '40, you need this kit.
