8BA Rebuild Putting the valves back into my 8BA. I purchased all new valve assemblies on Ebay as I ended up cutting the heads off of half of them and driving the guides out the bottom.
I am experiencing really loose springs on everyone one of them. Is the correct practice to install spring spacers??? I see Tardell does it in his flathead rebuild book. If so where would one purchase these shims. I am also missing a couple of the stem keepers on the end of the valves that holds it all together. Where would I find these. There are two piece and seem to be plastic. |
Re: 8BA Rebuild If your 8BA engine has the spring retainers and keepers it probably is a 49-50, with longer springs, 51-53 went to the rotor keepers with shorter springs, you probably have the later springs. Walt

Re: 8BA Rebuild Did you buy the guide + valve + spring + keepers + clip assemblies?

Re: 8BA Rebuild Sorry guys...I just figured out my problem. I was just doing mock up and hadn't yet set the guides and installed the keepers. This problem will go away once I do that.
Thank you to all who responded. |

Re: 8BA Rebuild Yeah,
He was having his little bit of fun on my account as the keepers I have sure felt and looked like plastic but when I put a magnet on them they are steel. |
