Source for 6.00x16 bias ply tires

I am about to spring for a set of four 6.00x16 bias ply tires for my 1939 Ford. I know this probably been discussed to death, but I am now ready to lay out the big bucks. Can anybody give me recommendations for the company to use?

If you join the Alliance on www.jalopyjournal.com and then buy from Coker Tire. You will save some money and still have the rest of the year to take advantage of all of the other savings that are offered.

Remember you can save shipping if you can find the vendor you want going to a local meet. It never hurts to ask.

Years ago I had good experience with LESTER TIRE Co. They advertise in Hemmings and are still in business.

I recently ordered a set of Coker's from Americas Tire here in California. On the east coast they are called Discount Tire. Americas Tire price matched Summit Racing, including free shipping! This way my tires are shipped straight to the tire shop for mounting, balancing and free rotations. And I don't have to receive the new tires at my house and then haul them from my house to the tire shop. Hope this helps...

I am with 19Forty on this one. Have had many sets of Lester tires that were on vehicles I purchased. They wear the best.

Hi All,
Came across a website for a manufacturer of tires in India called MRF tires, they make 600-16 tires and others, has anyone used these tires and can comment on their quality??
Viv.

I wouldn't trust any foreign tires on an old lawn cart much less on my valuable old cars. Go with one of the American companies that make them in the USA.

Last year I bought a set of 19in tires for my model A from Universal tire company ( an American company) in the USA. I was surprised when I got them to find they WERE Universal tire brand but made in VIETNAM. Can you be sure the tires you are getting from American companies are made in the states by them? A lot of the Ford A parts supplied by American companies are made in Taiwan.

I'm new here, but looking at all these sites, the prices are listed the same site to site.... What am I missing? Do each of these companies make their own, or buy from a central manufacturer?

Coker tire makes a lot of the tires that the vendors sell. Coker has been buying up all the old molds. That could be why you are seeing the same prices. I like Firestone tires and I buy them from universal because they show up two days after I order them but universal is not making them, Coker is.

Viv W the Model A parts made in Taiwan and such is kinda going away. More and more parts for A's are being made in the U.S. today under the guidance of Snyder's and Bratton's. A&L make excellent parts. This has been great for the hobby. If American made isn't available Bratton's will tell you and they search out the best foreign made they can find. If it is not so good they tell you up front.

Makes the Model A side of the hobby a lot more enjoyable nothing like we had in the 70's!!!!!

Re: Source for 6.00x16 bias ply tires

Did anyone notice the location of Viv (post #9)? Harare Zimbabwe, shipping distances might be an issue in his case, he was asking about tires manufactured in India.

I totally understand the buy American position, but people all over the world use tires and I'm fairly sure they don't all come from the U.S. Often some of these users are more concerned about tire life than we in the U.S. might be, so there has to be some quality suppliers out there somewhere (for those that don't live in the U.S.).
