Need a value. Quick! 1931 barn find..... I'm in my 1930 coupe at a gas station today and an 83 year old man says he has one right down the road he would sale. Which is minutes from my house. Crazy. What do you think it's worth. It's a 1931 and hasn't ran in 3 years been parked a long time. He says he wants $7500 not a dime less and wants to know tomorrow. I felt this was a little high. What does The Barn think?http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...9466c6ba53.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...49bdd2fe10.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...40717fd86d.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...f71d478dcf.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...c1aae08454.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...b6bed0d7a2.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...88306929b6.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...c44bc7fb8b.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...c379fd4ce8.jpg

Re: Need a value. Quick! 1931 barn find..... 4,500.00 the most. I would walk away for 7,500.00. But that's my opinion

Re: Need a value. Quick! 1931 barn find..... It would sell for that price here in a short time.it may be a whole different ball game in your part of the country. It looks a little crusty along the bottom, but when the local A guys got done picking it apart a street rodder would just fork over the money and haul it off.As an A guy here put it,while us A guys are picking out everything wrong, telling the owner what it needs, the rod guy is just standing there waiting for us to get done with the jibber jabber so he can fork over his money.Your neck of the woods may be completely different.

Re: Need a value. Quick! 1931 barn find..... If that started , drove and stopped, it would get double that asking price here in OZ.

Re: Need a value. Quick! 1931 barn find..... In looking at it, I think the price is fair

Re: Need a value. Quick! 1931 barn find..... Car needs everything! Your looking at well over $15k or more to get it decent. That's about $23k plus. Do you want a coupe for 23k?

Re: Need a value. Quick! 1931 barn find..... Take a good look inside the gas tank I see a metal inline fuel filter..
I would want to hear it run and feel it drive before forking over anything Most likely it's a mess mechanically and not worth it it looks like a carport find not a barn find |
Re: Need a value. Quick! 1931 barn find..... I agree with Vince, but also think Keith is right that on ebay it will fetch the price by a rod guy.
|
Re: Need a value. Quick! 1931 barn find..... I wouldn't be concerned with what a rod guy would pay. That doesn't make the car worth more, particularly, if you intend to keep it original. The value ratio is not equal, in my opinion.

Re: Need a value. Quick! 1931 barn find..... I would run like hell away from this one. I bought a running 1930 pickup for $5600.00

Re: Need a value. Quick! 1931 barn find..... Looks like one front tire is straight and the drivers side is pointed out ward.
|
Re: Need a value. Quick! 1931 barn find..... I would also be suspicious of why the seller wants an answer in 24 hours. My guess would be, he's going to see if you bite at the highest price he's asked for the car so far.Try to be rational.

Re: Need a value. Quick! 1931 barn find..... That looks like a Hot Rod body, and some running gear and fenders that will show up on eBay an hour after they are photographed. Bob

Re: Need a value. Quick! 1931 barn find..... $3500-4000. Even that's a stretch. those cars are not as "hot" as they used to be -especially if they don't run and drive. Don't be afraid to walk away.

Re: Need a value. Quick! 1931 barn find..... Hm, pictures not showing to view and answer :)! Are they too big ..what ??

Re: Need a value. Quick! 1931 barn find..... This might be a strange comment fro a country that doesn't have titles for cars - no such thing but "Does it have a title??"
The only way I learned such a thing existed was when I was informed by a helpful gent that I should never buy a car without one. It seems to me that it would be worth more with a title but I don't really understand your system. |
Re: Need a value. Quick! 1931 barn find..... I would just walk- not an exceptional deal by any means..................!

Re: Need a value. Quick! 1931 barn find..... I called several friends for advice from both sides. Stock guy and hot rod builders. As already stated the stock guy didn't act like it was much of a deal and I feel the same. I could see $5K. Now the other buddies who run hot rod shops didn't even mention the rust and one is going with me tomorrow to make an offer. He has already stated he is bringing cash if I pass. The guy did say he had the title. He didn't put a dead line on me but I said I would be back tomorrow. He spoke very much that his health was very bad ( he had a powered wheel chair and I could see and hear he was in pain to stand). I offered to help him but he wouldn't let me. I get it.

Re: Need a value. Quick! 1931 barn find..... This coupe is worth $3K-$4K and not a penny more. The cost to have a quality engine rebuild is $6500-$7000. I am having one done as I write this reply. The sheet metal looks like it is in decent condition such that you wouldn't have to buy new or replacements parts. The car is definitely worth restoring but not worth $7500.

Re: Need a value. Quick! 1931 barn find..... I can just about smell the huge mouse nest under the seat from here-but who says the engine needs a $6500 rebuild? On my '30 Fordor that had been sitting 30+ years, the engine exterior looked just about like this one-but it was in good condition inside-I just got it on the stand, cleaned it out well, reground the valves by hand, and checked the bearing clearances-it runs fine, and it sure didn't cost anything in that neighborhood. Just last week I saw the result of a hot rodder getting a '28-'29 Coupe-he only took the body, and sold the running, very original chassis to a friend of mine-he didn't even take the original Motometer off the radiator.
