Merc stock heads vs. EAB to use

What heads would you use on a NEW rebuilt Merc stock flathead with 4" crank and standard bore, ORIGINAL Merc heads or EAB heads and which will help for resale value, using the stock Merc heads or EAB heads ----Thanks

When you say Merc engine, does it have the 4" crank? If just for resale, that may be a buyer option the EAB heads would be best as ther have more compression. The ECM and 8RT are the lowest compression, having alarger combustion chamber. However High compression, depending on bore size would still be less then 8:1, even with .050" piston to head clearance.

If you are selling it as a Merc. engine then install the Merc. heads (8CM or EAC). Let the buyer determine what changes he wishes to do to the engine. The EAB's aren't going to make a whole lot of difference, just add to the confusion.

Re: Merc stock heads vs. EAB to use

The lower compression heads were used on Mercury cars to get the best burn with the 4-inch crank for the fuels of the day. There were 8CM heads for 49 thru early 51. The 1CM head is a replacement for these that you will find now and then and may have graced production engines thru the end of 1951 production. The EAC heads were late 1951 through the end of flathead Merc production. They all have "Mercury" raised casting letters that identify them further. For "Original" Mercury cars, the appropriate Mercury heads would be desirable. For a hot rod motor, not so much.
