Oil pan drain plug mystery

I have what I believe is a 1952 V8 engine in my f1.
However the oil pan has a drain plug size of 1 1/2 inches which appears to be for a 1947-1948 pan from my research.

Is it possible that the pan is from a 48 and put on a 1952 engine?

I am rebuilding the engine which I believe last ran in 1969.

I have no idea if there are differences in the pan itself or if just the drain plug size is different.

During the life of most flatheads many, many parts get interchanged! Any part can end up on about any engine (if it will fit!). Maybe during a previous rebuild, or maybe the pan hit something and just the pan was changed, who knows.

Do you mean you use a 1-1/2" wrench on it? or the threads are 1-1/2"?

Does your pan have the large clean-out plate? Those should have a 7/8" plug.

The threads are 1 1/2 inches.

1948 F1 used an 8BA Flathead, so the pan will swap no problem. Your F1 also used the 8BA style engine. The 1948 car used the earlier 59A type engine, this pan won't swap on.
