'35 Coupe Key/Lock question

I quite recently purchased a 1935 five window business coupe. There is 1) an ignition lock key and 2) a functional trunk key. Neither one fits the righthand door lock. Should the door lock accept either of the existing keys or does it require a third distinct key??

Thanks for advice! Terry

Assuming it's the same as 1940, the ignition key also locks the door. The other key is for the trunk and glove compartment.

There are several people who post on the Barn that specialize in old Ford keys and locks.

Your 35 ignition key should work your door lock......unless of course the door OR the ignition cylinders have been changed. I suggest you remove the door lock and clean it thoroughly it may just be "sleeping". Feel free to call me if you need more help.

Re: '35 Coupe Key/Lock question

The ignition key and the trunk key should BOTH fit into the door lock cylinder. Both keys are the same blank with a slightly different head. Neither may not operate the door cylinder. If you can not get them to go all the way in then apply some penetrating oil to the door cylinder. Keep trying to get the keys you have to go all the way in.

I don't think there was a Ford "Business Coupe" for 1935.

There was only Standard or De Luxe (5W or 3W).

Pomeroy,
Yes, my car would be the 5 window DeLuxe. I guess I used the term "Business Coupe" to clarify that it has a lockable trunk rather than a rumble seat. I plan to play around with the keys a bit more based on the helpful thoughts already posted!
