Edsel's 37 Woody
 

The recent restoration of the only 1937 Commercial Woody has caused quite a stir in Ford V8 circles here in New Zealand. Commissioned by Edsel for his tour of NZ in late 1937. He needed a rugged Vehicle for the rough NZ roads and a passenger wagon to carry all his luggage.He had it made right hand drive as all NZ vehicles are, shipped here and then left it here when he returned home. It resurfaced approx. 10 years ago and has been restored. I haven't seen it in the flesh and the pic's are from photo's in our New Zealand Vintage Car Club Bi-Monthly magazine.

That is an interesting vehicle, but my preference is the regular production 1937 Ford Woody.

Interesting vehicle and looks great. If it is a 1/2T, it would share the same frame and running gear as the car, if so, wonder why he went with the truck sheet metal.

What an interesting vehicle. In all of the "Woodie" books and literature that I have collected over the years, this is the first time I have seen this vehicle. I know Ford had several unique vehicles that were available only in Australia/New Zealand, such as "UTE's" and different types of Roadster Pick Ups and convertibles. Very cool!

Had me thinking that this fellow Kiwi is "talking bollocks" and "what the hell he is playing at !" then I thought about the date in April.

Credit where credit due the origin of this vehicle owes nothing to the FOMOCO (except the parts). Edsel probably didn't know where New Zealand is:eek:

The bloke who owns the woody is a "friend of a friend". A clever man who built it himself much in the same way as GBSisson is doing his. I'm seeking permission to send you the rest of pages with the story. This vehicle is more well known with the vintage car club than the V8 boys and is an enigma of sorts. The same guy has a nice ridgy didgy 48 clb cpe like mine.

Uh,maybe because truck sheet metal is cool...... :) How did it go so long 'undetected'? Was it left outdoors that whole time or squirreled away in a shed?

I would have never thought Edsel had enough time to go anywhere. That man literally worked himself to death.

GB he did the same as you are doing. He made it it up from bits and bobs he had collected over time. I'm told that the frame was quite bent and he spent hours and did a perfect job straightening it.
