water leak???

31 pickup...i have new oil in my engine, but it has a milky/foamy look to it after running a bit. the engine runs good and i filled the cooling system a few days ago and the water is still up in the radiator neck. i wonder if i may have a bad head gasket or worse. i am going to ga tomorrow and wonder if i should stop by mikes and get a new head gasket just in case. this car sat for probably 30+plus years and i haven't
had the head off as yet,

Have you checked the head torque?

If you are getting antifreeze coolant into the oil it will remove the lubricity & can cause extensive wear . Water is not so invasive to the lubricity .

i don't know if there is for sure water in the oil, it just doesn't lo0k right, probably less than an hours running on the oil. i've only run water at this point, but will use antifreeze when i am ready to drive it. i'm leaving town tomorrow for ga. and will check the head bolts when get back. i thought i had read something about older head gaskets being a prone to leaking.,

If it looks like a milkshake I can guarantee water is getting into the oil. Try draining the oil and refilling it. Take the car for a ride of 10 minutes or so and see what the oil look like.

Get a gasket, take off the head and see what is going on. Report back with pictures.

The engine has been sitting for 30 years it may just have condensation check your compression and if good and your coolant level has not dropped another oil change maybe in order
