Re: 37 gas tank dismantle Yes,you do not have to remove the body .It drops out from under the car .I did it on a 35 sedan and 36 coupe easily.

Re: 37 gas tank dismantle You will have to unscrew the sleave on the filler neck first. take the shock link loose, jack the car up high and put stands under the frame, not rear end so that the rear end will drop down some. On some cars the tank will come right out by shifting it to one side on others you may have to force/spring the frame apart with a jack or porter power so that the lip of the tank will pass the frame and drop down.

Re: 37 gas tank dismantle You should have no problem getting that tank out from the bottom on your 1937 Ford. I have done it more than once.

the top of my tank , the gauge i think original and the gas aspiration tube ? |
Re: 37 gas tank dismantle Just to make you aware should you decide (for some reason) to replace this tank, Bob Drake reproduction tanks for these years CAN NOT be installed the way the original was removed. The tanks are stamped too fat on the sides and WILL NOT slide far enough to one side to get the opposite flange up on top of the frame rail.
Been there and done that with a '37 Roadster that I worked on some years ago. The original tank was in pretty rough shape but we had no choice but to fix it because there was no way in hell I was going to lift the body. |
Re: 37 gas tank dismantle The gas pick up and gauge sending unit are very much different from US made cars. The sending unit if that is what we are seeing does not appear to have a wire terminal on it. If you have to replace the entire tank, better make sure the replacement has a gas pick up tube and sending unit with it.
