Garnish screws - what size? I have an early 35 pickup, missing all the garnish screws for the doors, rear window. I am looking at my Macs catalog and they don't call out a specific screw for these. Does anybody know what size they are so I can place an order?

Re: Garnish screws - what size? i think they are 6's or 8's

Re: Garnish screws - what size? Try Roy Nacewicz @ 734-654-9450..I'll bet he can help you and knows just what size you need.A great guy to talk to about old Fords !

Re: Garnish screws - what size? Let's assume that #6 screws are standard. If at some point because of wear, one or more of the originals were replaced with #8's, then ordering a standard set would be of no use. Better check the size of the holes that you actually have before wasting time and money.

Re: Garnish screws - what size? Keep in mind that Ford used the standard "slotted" head screws and not the "phillips" head screws until after WWII. I found some of the #8 screws with #6 heads at Totally Stainless or one of the other fastener suppliers. Pat

Re: Garnish screws - what size? I used stainless #8 oval straight slot on both my 40s,and they fit perfect.#6s would have been to small, and I bought them at the local Ace and True Value stores.

Re: Garnish screws - what size? I have tried ace and true value but all I can find is Phillips head. I did ask Roy but he was not 100 percent sure on the pickups. Good point about the holes being oversized if somebody put in to big of a screw.

Re: Garnish screws - what size? I use a pair of channel lock type of pliers to flatten the backside of the enlarged hole.
Then use standard equipment. works for me, Bruce |
Re: Garnish screws - what size? Good idea Bruce, will have to remember that.

Re: Garnish screws - what size? Van,
Sid's got it, Nacewicz was looking into making these garnish screws with the correct size head but oversize threaded portion. Charlie ny |
Re: Garnish screws - what size? My 1939 PU used #8 X 3/4" slotted Stainless Steel screws that I got from Totally Stainless. If the holes have been enlarged with #10 screws or just rust and wear, put a spot of MIG on the enlarged holes, grind smooth and re drill a 1/8" hole.

Re: Garnish screws - what size? I bought some oversize shank versus head size SS screws from an ebay vendor, Altha Stainless, located in Florida. Quality is great and reasonably priced.

Re: Garnish screws - what size? We used to be able to go to our budget "super cheap" auto parts store and get the raised head counter sunk stainless screws in numerous sizes in blister packs but they don't stock them any more. Even my upholstery guru is not sure where to look locally for an easy find replacement.

I got my stainless oval headed PK screws polished at the local electroplaters before I installed them so they look chromed. GB |
Re: Garnish screws - what size? VanSpeed, I have a copy of a "Combined Commercial Body Unit List" from early 1935 which calls for #8x3/4" oval head slotted sheet metal screws (33002-S6) for the front door window garnish and rear window garnish. The #8 oval head will fit the garnish holes correctly and look great. While installing, you may need to use a few 1" long screws to pull the garnish into place.

Re: Garnish screws - what size? So where did you get your screws Graeme .
QUOTE=Graeme / New Zealand;1263449]Channel lock pliers are one of the most useful tools in any toolbox. A mechanic friend of mine refers to them as "nut fu#*ers". I got my stainless oval headed PK screws polished at the local electroplaters before I installed them so they look chromed. GB[/QUOTE] |
