Took a ride with Pop this morning! (video) After getting the tranny hooked up the night before, and letting the engine run for awhile in the shop, I couldn't wait to take a small stroll in the old truck and to see how the transmission acted, as I've done nothing to it except change the oil. So I fired it off and took a little drive down the country road by our farm. The old tranny shifted as smooth as I imagine an 80 year old tranny can. I was impressed with how it shifted. I've heard some of these old trucks have a distinctive "whine" in the transmission, especially in low gear. My dad remembers this truck having that, well, right now it's as quiet as a church mouse? Anyhow, it drove great, the steering is remarkably tight, it's quite amazing to me actually. I eased down the road and as I drove by the farm, I felt like I had my grandpa riding shotgun with me for a bit, he would be so tickled to see this old boy on the road again. I never met my great grandfather, but I know he did a lot of work in this old truck, so many visions run through me mind as I hear the old flathead lug into 3rd gear. I sent this video i'm attaching here to my cousin that I purchased the truck off of, as her dad, (my great uncle) had initially inherited the truck, he used it on the farm as well in Missouri. She teaches school, and when she saw this she said she cried, and thought of her Dad. Her kids asked what was wrong, so she showed them, she said they were impressed when she showed um the picture of it in the fencerow. Made me feel good, it's more than just a mechanical restoration to me, it preserving family history, and remembering the ones that paved the way that I could be doing what I love today. Stay tuned, i'm working on the hood as we speak, and found a grill shell on ebay in great condition, my old one is rusted out bad on the bottom. May be planting some corn next week, so may be put on hold after tomorrow! My goal is to have it ready for the labor day parade, i'm ahead of schedule for that so far.. Here's that little clip I sent my cousin...

I will bet that Pop is very proud as I know he was along for the ride. Need to get a picture of him with the truck to put on the dash. Great job!! Now you need to learn to double clutch the old girl and let the rpms die down between up shifts and to accelerate the engine during down shifts. I tell myself to quit thinking about it and just do it when I am driving my 41 1 1/2 ton
