Radiator cap I'm trying to remove the thermometer form a quail radiator cap. I removed the 9/16 brass nut and I can't remove the thermometer. Does it pull out or unscrew? I don't want to break the glass. At times I feel like a bull in a china cabinet.
Thanks |
Re: Radiator cap Look at Snyders site to see the replacement for your cap. I clearly shows it is screwed in. Sorry I couldn't put the picture up but I tried to copy and paste and it didn't work.

Any other ideas? |
Re: Radiator cap I think there is some sort of sealer around the thermometer. If the quail hasn't fallen off like mine did, you may not be able to see it.

Re: Radiator cap Yep, just did a search:
"To replace the thermometer, you have to remove the metal plug at the bottom of the Motometer probe (the portion that extends down into the radiator neck)--it's just crimped in place, and then "dig out" the grout that surrounds and secures the glass thermometer--use old dental scrapers for this, they work just fine. http://forums.aaca.org/topic/91029-boyce-motometers/ |

Re: Radiator cap I was able to turn my thermometer in the quail by removing the brass nut and then gently turn the brass base of the thermometer with a pair of pliers. I wrapped the brass base with a soft cloth first. Be gentle!
