Various updates.

Currently, I have several heads under way, for both myself and Snyder. Things are moving along with all of that, just not quite as quickly as I wish.

The new replacement single carb intake manifold is ready to make sample castings. I have the fixture already cast, but I need to machine the base of it for installation in one of my horizontal machining centers. Snyder is very anxious for this. I assume he has back orders to fill.

Don has ordered a run of my new cast headers which replace the old version.

The blocks are getting closer to reality as the new core shop nears completion of their core process for the upper assembly. This has been the main delay of getting this going right now. Fixturing for the block is sitting, and waiting. This is alright with me because I am finishing up the last of my Cleveland blocks in the machine I will run A blocks in. I have several of those to finish up before I could machine an A block completely in that machine anyway.

All of this is an addition to my every day regular work. There is a lot to do and a lot to keep on top of. I'm doing my best.

Great news Tod the blocks will be the shit. All the different heads are to a limited audience but the blocks will be needed by all..
Nice and thanks for all your time and hard work

Re: Various updates.

I just got word today that the core shop is about ready to go with the new cores for the blocks!!! In a few weeks we will probably have some more samples with this new set up. It will make mold assembly even easier so that my presence will not be necessary to get castings.

I'm not sure there really is a line. There are just a bunch (100 or so) of interested people waiting for word that it is ready to hit production. I have been waiting for close to a year to get this new core design implemented from my software and into reality. While I was waiting I figured I'd develop some other stuff so that's why there are so many other projects coming to fruition at the same time.

Great news Tod, and second that which Mitch said.... It's always a gamble to rebuild a 84 year old block... Puttiing $4-5k and hoping a new crack does not appear and flush that money down the drain... Thank you for your efforts..

Been there -- done that!

Yep I don't see nearly as many old blocks getting built.. I know I would never sink $$ into one once the new ones are ready.. Along with that I would only use inserts

Re: Various updates.

I think $3,000 for new block and ? $3,500 to finish off the new engine would be money well spent --once and for all DONE! for ? $6,500... and should with care last at least when my kids are old..

I'm shooting for quite a bit less than 3k.

Hey Carl,
X 2 on that !

This is most likely the ONE area, maybe only subject that all experience hobbyist will agree on, i.e.- the want/need for the blocks that Tod is working !
Most recently I've felt a major stab in the heart from this exact subject...i.e.- someone who builds engines being a freaking crook/fraud, only to just find out that the B block that he swore was pressure tested properly (with a pressure test kit that I purchased and that he kept..hid the kit price charged under heading 'tooling' cost to him :()...LEAKS both water/air out ports. I've debated with myself whether to share this at all, until this thread subject showed.
Tod does not have to make anything for our hobby....but has chosen to ,because HE CAN !! Thank you.
When you doubt anything that has been said in this thread...just keep the picture that I'm reluctantly leaving for evidence of what has been said in this thread:

Personally, I will patiently await the 5x5 block version to spend on :)

The first batch of new cores for the next blocks are on their way to my place. Samples will be made with these new versions asap.

Re: Various updates.

Tod, Will the new cast iron headers be made different from the old one that Snyders sells. The old one I received would interfere with Weber intake and cause large vacuum leak. I had to have .010 tilt milled on header and intake so that it would seal. Thanks Dwayne

Yes, this new header design takes the Weber system into account.
