Raise letters on tailgate What is the best and correct way to paint the raise letters on the '40 pickup tailgate? Thanks
|
Re: Raise letters on tailgate Painting the letters or "script" would not be "correct" and I'm not trying to be wise just letting you know ahead of time.
For a proper restoration, tailgate just body color. Now if you got a resurrection going on like my 39.... well paint away:rolleyes: Your tailgate is the same as mine. I took it to a local professional sign shop and was hand painted, see recent thread today. |
Re: Raise letters on tailgate Brooks
With a roller, one shot. If you goof, wipe it off and do it again. A lot easier than doing hubcaps or bumpers. Bruce |
Re: Raise letters on tailgate In1940 the tailgate was painted body color. That is the way it left the Ford factory. Dave C.

Re: Raise letters on tailgate I have seen vinyl decals that were used on the tailgates but don't know where they were purchased.

Re: Raise letters on tailgate Vinyl letters are available from Carpenter or pickups of the 50's

Re: Raise letters on tailgate Thanks everyone for info, I will just paint them by hand.

Re: Raise letters on tailgate After the tailgate is primed and ready for the color coat, first spray the letters with whatever color you want the letters to be. Spray several coats. Then spray the entire tailgate with the body color. After the paint has cured, block sand the letters down to the color you sprayed on them.
