36 Ford Clutch

1 Attachment(s)
Ready to put the transmission back on and get the engine installed in the truck ! When we put the transmission on the clutch Seemed really toght to push in to me but I am not an expert on clutches. There are three bolts on the end of this clutch housing I'm thinking that has it pulled two because when I installed it there was a lot of play between the throwout bearing and the fingers. I have dropped it for now as we are working around the farm today but wanted to get some advice from y'all before I go any further thanks for any help Bret.

Re: 36 Ford Clutch

Clean the transmission front bearing retainer, outer diameter and the inside of the throw out hub then add a very small amount of fresh grease, so the throw out bearing rides with ease and the small return spring, returns the bearing and hub back to the stop. Clean the transmission front shaft remove any rust with a wire brush, even between the teeth. When clean you can spray with a small amount of oil and then wipe off excess. The pressure plate should need NO adjustment. Consider replacing the throw out bearing as well as the pilot bushing or bearing at the rear of the crank shaft, for a trouble free long lasting job. The rust and grit on the transmission front shaft and any rust preventive inside the clutch plate spline could have caused your problem installing the transmission. If you disassemble the pressure plate you can try the clutch plate on the transmission front shaft and get the two to mesh properly. The plate should slide up and down the trans. shaft splines with ease.

If the pressure plate was rebuilt it should been adjusted to the right finger height.
Rest of the play is taken care of by adjusting the pedal linkage.
And with a fresh clutchdisc you want a fair amount of play because it gets less with wear.

So the pressure plate isn't bolted together here. Guy at work said should be hard to align? It bolted right up no problem. Just seemed the lever that engaged the clutch was really tight to push in?
