8ba crank pulley

Took the plastic off my newly rebuilt motor and found the crank pulley is strangely out of place. Is this to far out, and what could cause this? By the way this is the truck version of the crank pulley. Thanks for the help. Attachment 258418

Re: 8ba crank pulley

Stock 8BA or is it some kind of conversion ?
8BA pulley on an early crank takes some machining of the slinger sleeve or you get something like this.
And the timing mark is usually sharp...

It is stock. It fit fine before rebuild.

Re: 8ba crank pulley

Did you install it before the pan ?
Or can it be that you now has the rope seal stuck in there ?
Take the pan off that will tell you what is going on.

Are the water pumps on the engine? The pulleys should line up.

You should be able to see where the pulley meets the sleeve that the seal rides on.

The timing mark needle looks like it is stuck in wrong direction or something like that can this be the reason you think its off ??

Here is how an 8RT truck pulley fits on my 8BA. It fit like the stock 8BA pulley. Also have 8RT truck water pump pulleys and it all lines up. Crankshaft is 8BA.
Hope this helps.

Re: 8ba crank pulley

There are TWO configurations of the sleeve part!
early engines, 1949, had the sleeve made integral with the pulley, as with a 59A. Later, most '50-53, had the sleeve as a separate part. Long ago, I spent some very bad hours fighting with a situation very much like your picture trying to shove a pulley from a '49 truck into an EAB engine...took me quite a while to figure out what I was up against!

Thanks Bruce, how did it end up, space between like this one?

Looked exactly like your pic. I was working in a dark garage when I was in college. Had NO idea. Pushed, hammered, cursed, bled...
Finally yanked off the front cover and figgereditout. Went to the art department, stole their hacksaw, and removed the extra sleeve...the pulley itself had a slight step there that guided the saw perfectly.
