Flatheads made in Canada Were flatheads cast in Canada until 1954 or did they send them in from Detroit.

Re: Flatheads made in Canada Yes. The (1932 - 1948) Ford V8 engine year of Canadian manufacture is identifiable by the code cast into the top of the bell housing, or on later engines (1949-1954) at the flange where the bell housing bolts on. Engine numbers that are preceded with the letter "C" are engines that were made in Canada. The Ford Motor Company of Canada produced engines used in all British Commonwealth countries except the British Isles. Ford V8 flatheads were produced outside the USA well into 1954.

My Canadian Mercury heads have EAC and Made In Canada cast right on each head.

Re: Flatheads made in Canada My Canadian '35 Ford had a "Made in Canada" on each head. When researching the car's past a Canadian Ford historical representative indicated the engine was completely made in Windsor, ON. I could be wrong but I believe this engine plant is still operating today.

Produced under license in France to 1990, V8-60 produced in France until 1961, Brazil 1964 . |
Re: Flatheads made in Canada At the early end of the '32-'48 spectrum there are no codes cast into the top of the bell housings of Canadian-made engines. Without the transmission attached they are identical to their Dearborn-made counterparts as their unique identifying serialization is stamped on the transmission, not on the engine block.

And here is another number (C1BA) located at the back of the engine on the housing above the automatic transmission. On this Windsor built 52 Mercury sedan. |
Re: Flatheads made in Canada When I was young in the 1950s in SoCal. It seemed that the hot rodders wanted Canadian blocks because they were thicker. Is that true or not ? Jim

Dunno, but the Canadian C69A blocks have really thick walls. |

Re: Flatheads made in Canada re Byron Warwick's 54 Meteor-- The 8BA cast into the heads indicates that it is a 49 Ford 239 cu in engine. 54 Meteor with a 256 ci in engine (Meteor Customline) would have CEAC cast into the heads. It may very well be a 256 that has had a pair of 8BA heads installed. Since most engine parts are interchangeable, it is quite common to find engines with parts that were not original to that particular engine. The above information was supplied to me by Ford of Canada Archives in Oakville ON before Ford discontinued this service
