what a mess ...firewall

worked all day yesterday trying to fix the firewall on my 30 roadster. the area around the heater hole is chopped upped. someone for some reason cut another hole adjacent and connected to the existing hole. Brecause of where its located it has a couple of compound curves and I cant get a good pattern to try and cut. Any suggestions? The best way might be to replace about an 8 inch square section . I don't want to cut up a good firewall....does anyone have a piece of one they's like to sell?

Seems that one of the suppliers sold a patch piece for what you need.I haven't built any fresh A's for a few years now,so I no longer have fresh memories of what's in the catalogs.I think that if you thumb through the catalogs you are going to find what you need.

Find a replacement firewall or one that you can get a patch out of

It isn't that hard to take a piece of 16 gauge (firewall gauge metal) and form it to the shape you need with some hand tools. Someone cut a manifold heater hole in my 28 coupe's firewall where the curves were. I hand made a patch for it, welded it in place and with minimal filler, you can't tell where it was hacked up after painting the firewall. If on your car there are some ribs where the hacking was done, it might be a little harder, but still doable. See last picture for making ribs.

I had the same problem, previous person put a piece of metal back with glue, I removed it, put the heater door in and put fiberglass where the hole was elongated.

I think most of the vendors have a patch panel. Bratton's is ~$5 cheaper than Mac's.
